"Women in German musical culture of the early modern period".
Concert and talk

Which is the contribution of women to German musical culture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods? This is the topic of Linda Maria Koldau's research, which she has compiled into a comprehensive handbook, published by Böhlau-Verlag in 2005. As these women are absent from traditional music history, it was necessary to investigate cultural history. This research resulted in a rich picture of a musical culture in which aristocrats, middle class women, nuns, but also patronesses and intermediaries, collectors, interpreters and composers participated. As hardly any recordings of the songs and instrumental pieces exist, Linda Maria Koldau will perform a selection to give us an impression of the varied musical life of women of that time.
