Queens' Ways III

Eight projects
from arts and sciences
January to April 2007

maecenia is delighted to announce the third series of the Queens' Ways.

The careers of most female artists and scientists differ from those of their male counterparts, who are taking the proverbial German "Kings' Way," in that they are rarely as straight or direct. Therefore, we have called this series of events "Queens' Ways."

maecenia aims at promoting the work of women artists and scientists and supporting their projects and ideas in a sustained manner.

Most of the events present a mix of talks, lectures, readings, exhibitions and performances, in the course of which the authors will introduce their specific scientific and/or artistic projects in Frankfurt.

At Frankfurter Kunstverein, we will over three consecutive days be showing video work and discussing the relationship of women artists, new media and the art market. At Goethe-Institut, a photographer will talk about the changes in Bosnia. She will be showing her photo portraits of 20 women, who have taken their lives in their own hands after the war, redefining themselves and their country. A talk at Goethe Museum is dedicated to early networks among women authors in the 19th century and will shed light on a previously unknown chapter of literary history. A politically highly charged documentary made by two filmmakers from Berlin will premiere at Frankfurt's Naxoshalle. It tells the story of five Turkish women who chose to no longer remain silent about torture suffered at the hands of Turkish police, making it a public issue. Finally, a musicologist of Frankfurt's University of Music and Performing Arts will bring to life the musical culture of women in the early modern period.
